Our Story
Barroccu & Co began in April 2020, during the first UK lockdown, with a simple frustration: the products available for caring for quality optics rarely felt equal to the optics themselves.
Founded by Christopher Barroccu — filmmaker, Lighting Director and lifelong glasses wearer — the brand grew from more than 25 years spent working where clarity, surface detail and visual precision matter.
Where It Started
For more than 25 years, Christopher has worked across broadcast, drama and film as a filmmaker and Lighting Director. In that world, a faint smear, fingerprint or speck of dust can affect what a lens reveals.
Those years developed a lasting sensitivity to light, surfaces and the smallest details within a frame. They also shaped a simple belief: the tools used around quality optics should be chosen with the same care as the optics themselves.
A Personal Standard
During the first UK lockdown, Christopher began looking for a cloth he would be happy to use on his own glasses and camera lenses. He wanted something larger, more substantial and better suited to repeated everyday use than the options he had been using.
The brief was simple: generous clean surface area, dense optical-grade microfibre, a considered finish and a cloth that could be washed and returned to everyday rotation.
That brief became the 43 × 30 cm Barroccu & Co cloth. Performance came first. The artwork came next.
The Artwork
Once the material standard was established, Barroccu & Co needed a visual identity that felt just as considered.
Each limited-edition design begins with original artwork by Joann Randles — photographer, filmmaker and visual artist — whose work brings colour, texture and composition to optical care that is too often overlooked.
The artwork is not an afterthought. It is part of what makes each cloth distinctive, personal and worth keeping.
The Brand Today
Barroccu & Co remains focused on creating considered products for people who value clarity, thoughtful design and the optics they use every day.
Our limited-edition cloths continue to be produced in small batches, using the same oversized optical-grade microfibre standard that shaped the first collection.
Today, that thinking is expanding from Optical Care into Optical Carry — applying the same attention to how eyewear is cared for, kept close and returned to wear throughout the day.
The principle remains unchanged: useful design, made for the optics people value.
